Bitfinex’s Paolo Ardoino: From Computer Science Researcher to CTO
Paolo Ardoino has been an integral part of Bitfinex since the beginning of 2015. His journey to becoming the Chief Technology Officer of the company is a testament to his passion for technology and finance.
Early Passion for Technology
From an early age, Paolo Ardoino showed an intense interest in computers. His fascination with hardware, networks, and cryptography led him to pursue a degree in Computer Science from Genoa’s Computer Science University, which he completed in 2008.
Military Researcher and Financial Developer
After graduating, Paolo began working as a researcher for a military project focused on high-availability, self-recovering networks, and cryptography. This role allowed him to refine his knowledge of distributed systems and experiment extensively with cryptography. Simultaneously, Paolo developed an interest in finance and began creating financial applications in 2010. In late 2013, he founded Fincluster and served as its Chief Technology Officer. The company delivered a modern web platform and a comprehensive, cloud-based financial application for advisors, fund managers, institutions, and small and medium-sized companies in London, Milan, and Lugano.
Transition to Bitfinex
In 2014, Paolo joined Bitfinex as a Senior Software Developer, where he was responsible for trading engine development, platform scalability, and high-availability. His expertise and contributions led to his transition to the role of Chief Technology Officer in 2016.
Current Roles and Responsibilities
As the CTO of Bitfinex, Paolo Ardoino manages the development team, evaluates new technologies, and designs the Bitfinex backend platform. Additionally, he serves as the Lead Backend Developer at the company. Beyond Bitfinex, Paolo also holds the position of CTO for Tether, a significant achievement in the cryptocurrency and blockchain space.
